Making the Fun Bath Bomb!

Bath Bomb is everyone's favorite. It will make your bath bubbling and fizzing--just feels like having a
champagne bath. Making of the bath bomb is very simple and also very fun. The main ingredients are sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), citric acid and corn starch. Sodium bicarbonate has a property to soften the hard water, and it can be used as a gentle facial washer. Citric acid is an antioxidant, it helps with slowing down the skin's aging process.

  • Baking Soda - 200 g
  • Citric Acid - 100 g
  • Corn Starch - 100 g
  • Salts - 1 tsp (for decoration purpose)
  • Color powder - about 1-2 tsp (I used pink mica, green seaweed powder, and green tea extra, and cocoa powder for my color decoration)
  • Dry rose - a few
  • Vegetable glycerin - about 2-4 tsp
  • Rose floral water (You can also use mineral water or spring water.)
  • Essential or fragrance oil of your choice- 2 tsp

Measure baking soda, citric acid and corn starch. The ratio is 2:1:1. Mix them well in a bowl.

Add in the mica powder. The amount of powder could be depending on how strong you prefer for you color shade.

Add the glycerin in and mix well

In a spray bottle, mix rose foral water and fragrance oil together. Spray it evenly to the powder.

Continuous mix and work through the powder with your hands.

Until you squeeze the powder in your palm, and could see it forms a clot without breaking apart, then you know that your powder is ready for shaping.

You could mold them in a cookie cutter….

Or use the ice cream scoop to make ice creams! Put some decorated salt and dry rose in the bottom of the scoop, and fill the scoop with powders.

Press hard, so you could feel the powder is not loosen, and if you press with your finger, it feels hard like rock.

Squeeze the handle to release the ice cream scoop. Remember, your powder shouldn't be too wet neither too dry. Otherwise the ice cream will be easy to break down when release. Just keep practice until perfect.

Sit your bath bombs in the air, allow it to be dried.

Now you could decorate your bath booms to make them look more attractive.
Aren't they just look so yummy?

Put them in an ice cream cup, and decorate with glycerin fruit soaps. Sprinkle with soap shreds.....

You could fill the cup with Epsom salt or bath Sea Salt. It will make a very nice spa gift for your love one.

The white ice cream bath bomb was mixed with pearl powder, and scented with vanilla cream fragrant oil; the green one was mixed with seaweed powder and scented with green tea and white tea fragrant oil; guess what the brown one was made of? Yes, cocoa powder and chocolate fragrant oil. Hmmmm…..

Now let’s test to see how it works. This is how it looks like when you drop a piece of your bath bomb to a cup of water. Just look at the raise of the bobbles and the fizzing effect. I feel like jump in to a bath tub right away. How about you?

You could design your own recipe too. Just be creative with anything you could think of.

Most of the ingredients including baking soda and citric acid can be found from bulk barn. I got mine from New Directions Aromatics. If you only looking for small amount, you could also get some of the supplies from my workshop too.
